“No matter what opportunities you are given, in your employment,

your volunteer work or your other activities, the key to success is

not asking yourself ‘Do I do my job well?” but asking yourself

‘How can I use this opportunity to make a difference for others?’”

EXAMPLES OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE

·         As a Director in the Ministry of Finance, helped save BC hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.  Also led the process for developing the first business plan for the new Strategic and Corporate Policy division, including facilitating a division retreat to foster employee input and engagement.

·         As Management Chair, helped re-establish a cross-ministry Occupational Safety and Health Committee in order to better protect the safety of hundreds of employees.

·         At the Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat, identified a flaw in another Ministry’s draft legislation and was able to have that problem rectified before the bill was finalized.

·         At the BC Ministry of Health, led the Tobacco Enforcement Program, providing policies, training and advice to help Tobacco Enforcement Officers enforcing provincial and federal legislation throughout British Columbia better protect children from tobacco.

·         At Health Canada, produced the first annual report on reciprocal billing – the billing of provinces for Medical Services Plan services provided to patients from other provinces.  Led a study on the evolving focus of international conferences on AIDS.

·         At Statistics Canada, assisted in the analysis of morbidity and mortality data to examine the link between hyperlipidemia and heart attacks and coronary bypass procedures.
