Service to Members, Clubs, and Districts Patrick has served in leadership positions for
most of his Kiwanis career, and in all his positions, he has worked to not
just fill a vacancy but to actually make
a difference. Of his six years in CKI (Circle K
International), he served six years in club leadership positions and three years
in district leadership positions. At
the age of 25, he joined Kiwanis,
serving in all club officer positions (including Distinguished Secretary and
Distinguished President) and being named Kiwanian
of the Year. By the age of 30 he was
serving his division as Lieutenant Governor. For the past 13 years, Patrick has served at the
district level, including holding a broad array of District Chair positions:
K-Kids Administrator, Marketing & Public Relations, District Magazine
Editor (founding editor), and Membership.
At 38 he was elected Governor-Elect, serving as Governor in
2009/10. Since leaving the board, he
continues to serve the district as Secretary/Treasurer of the PNW District’s
Past Governors committee. Service to our Foundations Patrick has served as a director on the PNW
Kiwanis Foundation since 2000 (two years as ex officio), including several
years as the Foundation’s webmaster.
Since 2011 he has been the District Coordinator for the Eliminate
Project, a partnership between UNICEF, Kiwanis International, and the Kiwanis
International Foundation. He has been
recognized with the J.N. Emerson Fellowship, the highest award of the PNW
Kiwanis Foundation. He is a Heritage Society
member and has been recognized with honors from the
Kiwanis International Foundation, including the Charter Walter Zeller, George
F. Hixson, Carthage Pullman (supporting CKI), and G. Harold Martin
(supporting Key Club) fellowships. He
has also been recognized with a diamond-level Mel Osborne fellowship from the
Kiwanis Foundation of Canada. |
Service at the International Level Patrick first served at the international level
was when International President Steve Siemens selected him for membership on
the international K-Kids Committee. He
continues to serve as “Secretary for Life” of the 2009/10 Class of
Governors. In 2010/11 he served as
Vice-Chair of the North America West Membership Committee and in 2011/12 he
is serving as Chair of the Committee for Growth in North America, South
American, and the Caribbean. In 2011
he was selected as the District Coordinator for the Eliminate Project,
Kiwanis International’s Worldwide Service Project. Service to the Kiwanis Family Patrick and his wife Kristina are both graduates
of Kiwanis youth programs and are great supporters of the entire Kiwanis
family. During his term as K-Kids
District Administrator, the number of K-Kids clubs doubled and the number of
K-Kids members tripled. Kiwanis
International adapted his club-building tool for use with all of elementary
and middle school programs (BUG, Terrific Kids, K-Kids, and Builders
Club). His first appointment to an
international committee was an appointment by International President Steve
Siemens to the International Committee on K-Kids. When he was a member of CKI (then known as Circle
K International), Patrick admired Kiwanis Governors and other leaders who
encouraged and counselled him. One of
the things Patrick most looked forward to in serving as a District Officer
was returning the favour by working with the Governors of Key Club and CKI
and their boards. As Governor, Patrick
also worked with the District Secretary/Treasurer to launch two new
initiatives – a medallion program and a reception – which continue to provide
thousands of dollars each year in new funding to support Service Leadership
Programs. |

“If you want a standing ovation as a leader: Respect others, including their
talents, perspective, and motivations. Inspire them to strive for
success. ...for that is the definition of a standing ovation: to
RISE and APPLAUD.” |
