“This is the purest form of leadership because you cannot rely on
constructs such as chain of command or employment contracts.

Leadership in the volunteer sector is like what they say about
New York City: if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.”

EXAMPLES OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE

·         As Governor, helped the Pacific Northwest move beyond conflict over District structure and refocus on working together to better serve our communities.

·         As Governor-Elect, established a new training program for Lieutenant Governors that focused on the nuts and bolts of that position in respect to clubs, the divisions, the district, and Kiwanis International.

·         While K-Kids District Administrator, the number of clubs doubled and membership tripled.

·         As Marketing & Public Relations Chair, established a full-color quarterly magazine with a focus on grass-roots community service and a subscription circulation of more than 10,000.

·         Developed a club-building tool later adopted by Kiwanis International for K-Kids and Builders Club.

·         As Leader of the PNW District’s Membership Team, led a very successful March Membership Campaign and helped build new Kiwanis clubs.

·         As Lieutenant Governor, served as one of the organizers of the 9/11 Victims’ Children Fund Benefit Concert in Sidney BC, which was held just four days after September 11, 2001, and raised over $10,000.

“No matter what opportunities you are given, in your employment,
your volunteer work or your other activities, the key to success is
not asking yourself ‘Do I do my job well?” but asking yourself

‘How can I use this opportunity to make a difference for others?’”

“Leadership is not about getting your way or achieving change
regardless of the consequences.  Leadership is about
strengthening the organization and finding ways to better
support the people without whom the organization would not exist.”
